Attorney at Law
Mr. Washington received his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Lincoln University (MO). As an undergraduate, he was an Omega Psi Phi Fraternity District Scholar, a Presidential Scholar and a Lincoln University Alumni Scholar.
Mr. Washington attended St. John's University School of Law. He was a member of the Polestino Trial Advocacy Institute and received several awards for trial advocacy. Mr. Washington studied law at Soochow University in China as a Kenneth Wang International Fellow and was awarded a certificate in International Business Transactions.
Mr. Washington has spoken at events throughout the city on the laws governing police action. He has published articles in the A.B.A. Student Lawyer Magazine and the New York State Criminal Law Newsletter. He has been quoted in the New York Times, and he has served as lead counsel on cases featured in the New York Post and the Daily News. The National Trial Lawyers named Mr. Washington one of the Top 40 Trial Attorneys under 40.
Mr. Washington is a member of the Brooklyn Bar Association, the New York County Lawyers Association, and the Nassau County Bar Association. He is admitted to practice law in New York State and in the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York. Mr. Washington lives in Brooklyn with his family.
Criminal Law Experience
Mr. Washington represents clients in all matters pertaining to criminal law and procedure. Mr. Washington is a member of the Assigned Counsel Defender Plan; representing clients in misdemeanor, felony, and major felony cases. He has represented clients in state and federal court. Mr. Washington has obtained dismissals and favorable plea agreements for several clients. The American Society of Legal Advocates recently selected Mr. Washington as one of the Top 40 Under 40 Criminal Practitioners for the State of New York.
Mr. Washington brings a wealth of experience to his criminal practice. Before attending law school, Mr. Washington conducted an early assessment of criminal cases in the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office. After graduating from law school, he served as an Assistant District Attorney in Manhattan. During his four years as a prosecutor, Mr. Washington prosecuted more than 250 felony cases. He presented nearly 100 cases to the Grand Jury and tried numerous cases to verdict. While serving as a prosecutor, Mr. Washington drafted misdemeanor and felony complaints. He drafted search warrants, GPS Orders, and eavesdropping warrants. In 2010, Mr. Washington received the Special Narcotics Prosecutor's Award for Dedication and Extraordinary Service.

Labor and Employment Experience
Mr. Washington provides counsel to employees and employers in matters of labor and employment. He has represented employees as outside counsel for District Council 37, the largest public employee union in New York City. He has defended employees in Arbitrations and Administrative trials. He has also represented employees in internal investigations in the public and private sectors.
He has litigated cases before the New York State Human Rights Commission, the Office of Administrative Trials, the Office of Collective Bargaining, and the United States Equal Opportunity Commission. This office has represented clients on a wide range of employment and labor matters, including employee discipline and wrongful termination. The office conducts internal investigations into employee misconduct and maintains short- and long-term Labor Counsel engagements for institutional clients throughout the New York City Metropolitan Area.
Before entering private practice, Mr. Washington was Associate Counsel for Labor Relations at the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation. In that position, he provided legal advice to city hospitals, nursing facilities, and treatment centers. He litigated a wide-range of labor cases, including, but not limited to, employee discipline, out-of-title claims, improper practice petitions, and impasse proceedings. Mr. Washington was also an attorney in the Department of Education's Administrative Trials Unit.
